WASHINGTON — For those lucky souls who have to work on Columbus Day, commuting in and out of the city may be a bit different Monday, depending on the route.

All streets that operate differently during rush hour will be in non-rush hour patterns. This includes Rock Creek Parkway, Canal Road, Connecticut Avenue and Chain Bridge.

The HOV restrictions will be lifted in Maryland and Virginia, but restrictions will remain on 50, the John Hanson Highway.

Metrorail will open at 5 a.m. but trains will arrive every 6 to 12 minutes during the day, similar to a Saturday schedule. There’s no scheduled track work and parking at the Metro lots is free.

Metro says most bus riders should expect normal weekday service, but suggest checking their normal route for holiday impact.

There is also no VRE service Monday. MARC trains on the Penn Line are on a Saturday schedule. There’s no service on the Camden and Brunswick lines.
