LAS VEGAS (AP) — A county clerk is apologizing to same-sex couple who are waiting to get marriage licenses in Las Vegas.

Clark County Clerk Diana Alba and other clerks across Nevada say they are waiting for a trial judge to enforce a federal appeals court ruling declaring that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry in the state.

Alba called the enforcement order the “critical piece” as she apologized to about five gay couples waiting at the Las Vegas marriage license bureau Thursday afternoon. She said she’s “kind of paralyzed” waiting for the order.

It wasn’t clear when or if a ruling would come, but Alba said the bureau is open until midnight and would issue licenses as soon as the federal judge issued the necessary court order.
