Officiating leader Corrente resigns from Pac-12

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Pac-12 coordinator of football officiating Tony Corrente has resigned, citing personal and professional reasons.

Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott appointed Jim Blackwood as interim coordinator in his place.

Corrente served as the Pac-12’s officiating coordinator since 2011 and is an NFL official who worked last season’s AFC Championship game. He missed part of the 2012 season after being diagnosed with throat cancer.

Blackwood has worked more than two decades as a college conference coordinator and 10 years as an NFL instant replay official. He previously served as the instant replay supervisor under Corrente.

Blackwood will serve as interim coordinator for the remainder of the season and the Pac-12 will begin a search for a permanent replacement after the season.
