Airports to make security screening more family friendly

WASHINGTON — These days, traveling by air is anything but convenient. Pat downs at the airport require taking off jackets, jewelry, hats, shoes and anything else that could cause the metal detector to go off or arouse suspicion.

Security procedures can be especially scary for young kids, but now some airports are trying to make screening more family friendly.

The Transportation Security Administration is in the process of making pat downs less likely for children. In some random cases, little ones could still be subject to security measures, however.

Experts say the most important thing parents can do is to remain calm. The pat down will only last about 15 minutes, and kids are more likely to feel at ease if their parents seem comfortable.
