BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia has charged five people with fighting in Syria and helping to organize the transfer of fighters from Europe for the Islamic State group.

The Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday that three men have been in detention since March, while two others were charged in absentia.

The group is suspected of “conspiring to finance terrorism, train and recruit for terrorist actions.”

The prosecutor’s statement says they organized the transfer of fighters through a Muslim-dominated region in southwest Serbia to Turkey and on to training camps in Syria.

The prosecutor’s statement says the men also fought alongside terrorist groups in Syria.

Serbia has supported the U.S.-led fight against the Islamic State group. Authorities have said that about 30 people from Serbia so far have joined the Islamic militants.
