WASHINGTON — Hurricane Maria brought landslides, uprooted trees and flooded roadways to Puerto Rico, in addition to knocking out power for the whole island.

Rescuers were starting to get a look at the extent of the damage early Thursday after the storm hit Puerto Rico as a Category 4 hurricane a day earlier.

Video taken from a moving vehicle shows dark traffic lights, downed trees, broken power lines and debris.

In the rural neighborhood of Palma Sola, a river overflowed as a result of the storm, destroying a bridge.

Roofs were blown off buildings, and cars picked their way through blocked streets, some covered in water.
