Toledo tops Western Michigan in OT 20-19

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Logan Woodside threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Alonzo Russell in overtime and Western Michigan missed the extra point on its answering touchdown as Toledo took a 20-19 come-from-behind victory on Saturday night.

A Toledo fumble put the ball in Western Michigan’s hands with 5:45 to go and a 10-play, 60-yard drive was capped by Andrew Haldeman’s 33-yard field goal to put the Broncos up 13-10.

The Rockets drove down the field in 1:11 and Jeremiah Detmer kicked a 37-yard field goal with no time left to send the game into overtime. Toledo (4-2, 3-0 Mid-American Conference) trailed through the first three quarters and never led in regulation. Terry Swanson scored a tying touchdown on a 2-yard run early in the fourth.

Darius Phillips answered Toledo’s overtime touchdown with a 20-yard reception for the Broncos (2-3, 0-1), but Haldeman missed the extra point.
