Sacred Heart fends off Delaware 10-7

NEWARK, Del. (AP) — Chris Rogers kicked a fourth-down 25-yard field goal after Sacred Heart stalled at the 8 on a late drive, boosting the Pioneers to a 10-7 win over Delaware on Saturday.

The field goal, coming with 8:28 to play, was the only score after halftime.

Delaware’s Jalen Randolph, for the second straight game, scored on the first play, scorching Sacred Heart’s (4-1) vaunted run defense for a 79-yard touchdown. The Pioneers, ranked first in the FCS at allowing just 57.5 yards rushing per game, surrendered 158 to the Fightin’ Blue Hens (3-2). Randolph gained 113.

Sacred Heart knotted the contest at 7-7 in the second quarter on RJ Noel’s 8-yard pass to Tyler Dube.

Noel coughed up a fumble while driving to the 18 after gaining the lead, but Delaware’s fourth-quarter possessions ended with an interception in the end zone, an incompletion on fourth down and a punt.
