U.S. stocks ended lower Friday, turning in the worst weekly performance since May 2012. The declined capped a turbulent week in the market amid fears that the global economy could sputter. Technology shares were especially hard hit as several semiconductor makers slumped.
On Friday:
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 115.15 points, or 0.7 percent, to 16,544.10.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index slid 22.08 points, or 1.2 percent, to 1,906.13.
The Nasdaq composite shed 102.10 points, or 2.3 percent, to 4,276.24.
For the week:
The Dow is down 465.59 points, or 2.7 percent.
The S&P 500 is down 61.77 points, or 3.1 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 199.39 points, or 4.5 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 32.56 points, or 0.2 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 57.77 points, or 3.1 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 99.65 points, or 2.4 percent.
