DANVILLE, Va. (AP) — A former correctional officer faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing inmates’ mail.

U.S. Attorney Timothy J. Heaphy’s office says 33-year-old Ezra Lamont Price of Danville pleaded guilty Tuesday to theft of mail.

Price formerly was a correctional officer at the Danville Adult Detention Center. He admitted Tuesday to taking cash, money orders and other items of values that were mailed to inmates at the facility.

Price also faces a fine of up to $250,000.
