ATLANTA (AP) — Officials say they’re closing the northernmost runway at the world’s busiest airport until mid-October for maintenance, but it shouldn’t have a negative impact on passengers.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport officials said in a statement that a 9,000-foot stretch of one of the airport’s five runways is being repaved. The airport’s general manager Miguel Southwell says the pavement is at the end of its lifespan and the work is expected to be done by Oct. 15.

Maintenance on the 35-year-old runway is part of a $38 million capital improvement project that will include installing new LED runway lights.

Hartsfield-Jackson serves more than 9.4 million passengers a year.
