AU professor to await trial start in jail

WASHINGTON – A D.C. magistrate found there is enough probable cause to detain an American University professor accused of breaking into a shopping center and setting a fire.

David Pitts will remain in jail until his burglary trial begins Oct. 1.

American University says Pitts is on leave until more is known about what happened.

Pitts chaired the Department of Public Administration and Policy.
