ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A Maryland commission still has significant decisions to make about proposed regulations for the state’s medical marijuana law as they bump up against a deadline.

A Monday deadline had been set for the panel to finish drafting regulations for review by state officials.

Sharon Bloom, acting executive director of the commission, says the panel is working diligently and carefully on a new program with a lot of important components.

The commission released an updated draft of regulations last week. Commissioners plan to meet again Sept. 23. The panel still needs to decide how many dispensaries will be allowed.

Lawmakers passed a new medical marijuana law this year, because a previous law had stalled. That’s because it required academic medical centers to run medical marijuana programs, and none stepped forward.
