LaHood vows to stand behind the Dulles Rail Project

WASHINGTON – Planning for the Silver Line is on the right track, says U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

He met with Loudoun and Fairfax counties, the WMATA chair and Metro’s vice chair Wednesday to iron out details in the second phase of the Dulles Rail Project, which will run from Reston to Dulles International Airport and continue into Loudoun County.

“We just had a very good meeting,” he said in a statement. “And what we’ve decided to do is continue to stand behind this project. It’s a very important project.”

Virginia Transportation Secretary Sean Connaughton says the main sticking point remains the Airports Authority’s preference to use union labor even though Virginia is a right to work state.

But the authority has agreed to review the preference moving forward, he says.
