Zenner leads S. Dakota St. past Southern Utah 26-6

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) — Zach Zenner ran for 140 yards on 25 carries and South Dakota State held Southern Utah to 263 total yards in a 26-6 win on Saturday night.

South Dakota State (2-1) opened the game with a 13-play, 75-yard drive, which was capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Reginald Gandy.

Shayne Gottlob, a former tight end who moved to defensive line in 2013, intercepted a pass from Southern Utah’s Aaron Cantu and returned it four yards for a touchdown, giving South Dakota State a 14-0 lead 5 seconds into the second quarter.

An 18-yard touchdown pass from Zach Lujan to Jake Wieneke late in the half and a 21-yard field goal by Justin Syrovatka early in the third made it 24-0.

Toa Afatasi put Southern Utah (0-3) on the board with 5:18 to play, but Trey Carr intercepted the ensuing 2-point conversion attempt and returned it for a score.
