Ryu to leave Dodgers, get MRI in Los Angeles

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu will leave the team and fly to Los Angeles on Monday to have an MRI on his left shoulder.

The timing makes it almost certain that the 14-game winner will skip his next scheduled start. Manager Don Mattingly said it was doubtful Ryu would pitch Wednesday.

Ryu left his start Friday after one inning, complaining of tightness and pain in his shoulder. He later said the injury felt similar to the one that landed him on the disabled list in May.

Ryu met with Dr. Neal ElAttrache in the Bay Area on Saturday but team officials decided to have Ryu undergo the MRI in Southern California.

Losing Ryu would be a significant blow to Los Angeles. The Dodgers began Saturday with a one-game lead over the San Francisco Giants. The two teams are in the middle of a three-game series.
