Kingston Hill wins St. Leger for first time

DONCASTER, England (AP) — Kingston Hill claimed a maiden St. Leger victory on Saturday as trainer Roger Varian won the world’s oldest classic for the first time.

The 9-4 favorite was a doubt for the race due to the ground at Doncaster, but the English Derby runner-up was given a fine ride by Andrea Atzeni.

Just as Romsdal moved to strike, Kingston Hill began his charge to finish a length and a quarter on top at the post. Snow Sky was third.
