Occupy DC events may cause afternoon delays

WASHINGTON – Occupy DC events could cause some delays in the District, starting Tuesday afternoon.

Between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., there will be a May Day/Occupy event at Georgetown University’s Healy Hall. There shouldn’t be any traffic issues due to this event, but another Occupy gathering at Malcolm X Park in Northwest will kick off at 3:30 p.m.

Malcolm X Park is at the intersection of 15th Street and Euclid Street NW. Between 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., there will be many festival activities, including live music, kite-making, games and art exhibits — all with an activist twist.

At about 6 p.m., protesters plan to head southbound on 16th Street NW from Malcolm X Park to the White House. Watch for police activity and street closures along 16th Street NW between Euclid Street and Lafayette Square, where a rally is expected to continue until about 8 p.m.

There was word the protestors may march on K Street around 2:30 p.m., but WTOP’s Nathan Hager reported just before 2:45 p.m., no march took place.
