Md. gov. to ride a horse, don 1812 costume

BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley will don an 1812 militiaman outfit as part of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the “Star-Spangled Banner” in Baltimore.

On Thursday, O’Malley, on horseback, will lead 500 uniformed members of the Maryland National Guard along the six-mile National Historic Trail that American soldiers marched during the Battle of Baltimore in 1814.

Other events in Baltimore include a 9/11 memorial at Fort McHenry. The National 9/11 Flag will be on display at the fort all day Thursday, and the names of those who lost their lives during the attacks on the World Trade Center will be read aloud.

High above the city, the Blue Angels will be practicing for their air show on Thursday, performing circling maneuvers over Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
