SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A player for Syracuse University’s women’s soccer team has apologized for using a homophobic and racial slur in a video posted on Instagram.

In a statement emailed Tuesday night to The Daily Orange, Syracuse’s student-run newspaper, senior Hanna Strong of Monson, Massachusetts, apologized for using words she says were “equally cruel and hurtful.”

Strong says her words recorded in the video don’t reflect how she views those she may have offended.

Strong was suspended from the team indefinitely after she was identified as the person who uttered the slurs while speaking toward someone else in a video posted online.

Athletic director Daryl Gross says the university is investigating and results will be sent to the school’s Office of Students Rights and Responsibilities.
