NC Central tops Div-II Elizabeth City St., 34-7

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Andre Clarke ran for the first three touchdowns of the game as North Carolina Central built a 24-0 lead in the second quarter and cruised to a 34-7 win over Elizabeth City State Saturday.

The victory was the first for first-year head coach Jerry Mack, 33.

Quinn Billerman was 19 of 29 for 165 yards and a touchdown for the Eagles (1-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Clarke finished with 83 yard rushing on 12 carries.

Kenny King scored from the 1 with 36 seconds left in the first half, capping a 12-play, 77-yard drive.

Division II Elizabeth City, playing its season opener, was limited to 70 yards passing and gained just 101 yards rushing on 46 carries.

The Eagles hold a 7-2 record all-time against Elizabeth City. Both teams played in the Central Interscholastic Athletic Conference before NCCU moved to Division I.
