7 countries interested in hosting 2022 Ryder Cup

VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) — Seven European countries have expressed an interest in hosting the Ryder Cup in 2022.

The European Tour released a statement Friday saying notifications were received from Austria, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey before the deadline for officially advising tournament organizers of their intention to submit a bid.

Each interested nation will receive an official information pack and Ryder Cup officials will undertake inspection visits before the end of the year.

The European Tour statement says formal submissions must be made by Feb. 16, 2015 and the winning bid will be announced later that year.

The next two Ryder Cups on European soil take place at Gleneagles, Scotland, this month and Le Golf National in Paris in 2018.
