Man gets 27 years for robbing armored vehicle

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A D.C. man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for robbing an armored vehicle in Glenarden.

Forty-eight-year-old Steven Vondell Williams was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Greenbelt.

According to evidence presented at trial, on May 3, 2011, Williams and another man robbed an armored truck that was dropping off cash at a 7-Eleven. Prosecutors say the two pointed handguns at the armored truck company’s worker and made off with $30,000 in cash.

Prosecutors say police were able to track the robbers by a GPS device hidden in the money.
