WASHINGTON – Some women are going to great lengths to get fashionable feet, including elective surgery and injections.
Some women hate that their second toe sticks out further than their big toe. Not only do they hate the way it looks, but it can also make shoe shopping difficult, they say.
That anomaly prompted Beverly Hills resident Margarita to have surgery to shorten her second toe on each foot. She appeared on the program “The Doctors” and allowed the surgery to be videotaped.
“I’m so happy,” she says when she unveils her “fixed” feet. “I finally have cute toes. I can finally go shoe shopping.”
To help ease the pain of high heels, some women are having fat or collagen injected into the balls of their feet to act as padding. SodaHead reports the number of those foot injections is up 21 percent in a year in the UK alone.
Nightline reports foot doctors associated with The American Podiatric Medical Association aren’t happy with the new cosmetic surgery trend for feet. And the practice is officially opposed by the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society.
Currently, the most popular elective surgery is chin work.
