Chicken festival could continue with new sponsor

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) — The Salisbury Chamber of Commerce might step in to salvage the decades-old Delmarva Chicken Festival.

The Delmarva Poultry Industry announced this spring that this year’s festival held in Queen Anne’s County would be its last. The industry group had hosted the festival every year since 1948.

Salisbury Chamber President Memo Diriker tells The Daily Times of Salisbury (http://tinyurl.com/ouwn22p) that the Chamber is exploring taking over the festival. He says the festival is an important part of the regional economy. He says no final decisions have been made, and the Chamber hasn’t named a date or location for the event.

Chamber CEO Ernie Colburn says the event would maintain its longtime title of Delmarva Chicken Festival even with the new sponsorship.
