Hornish wins pole for Nationwide race at Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, Ohio (AP) — Sam Hornish Jr. has won the pole for the second annual NASCAR Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Hornish, an Ohio native, had a lap speed of 95.873 around the 2.258-mile road course located midway between Columbus and Cleveland.

Alex Tagliani was second at 95.53 and Brian Scott third at 95.44. Ty Dillon and Chris finished fourth and fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 on the grid were Justin Marks, Brendan Gaughan, Regan Smith, series points leader Chase Elliott and Kenny Habul.

The 90-lap race is set for the afternoon.

Defending champ AJ Allmendinger is not competing, choosing instead to race at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Michigan.
