WASHINGTON — Two girls were forbidden to board a United Airlines flight from Denver International Airport Sunday morning because they were wearing leggings.

One of three girls was allowed on the flight from Denver to Minneapolis after she changed and put a dress over her leggings.

The teens used a United employee pass for which United Airlines has a distinct, more conservative dress code than that of regular passengers, according to The Washington Post.

“Our regular passengers are not going to be denied boarding because they are wearing leggings or yoga pants,” Jonathan Guerin, representing United Airlines, told the Post. “This morning, the attire of the pass travelers on this flight didn’t meet the dress code policy.”

Before United Airlines released a statement regarding the teens and the employee travel pass, a woman who overheard the commotion at a gate at the airport took to Twitter to express her disbelief.

United Airlines’ website states that “Passengers who are barefoot are not properly clothed,” but does not elaborate on the dress code for passengers.
