Occupy inspires team’s ‘octopi’ movement

Dave Johnson, wtop.com

WASHINGTON – Imitation is supposed to be the sincerest form of flattery, but it is hard to believe the “Occupy Wall Street Movement” has inspired a minor league baseball promotion.

The St. Paul Saints, who are owned by innovative baseball promoter Mike Veeck, have come up with Octopi Minnesota. According to the Saints’ news release, it is because octopi have 99 percent of all the legs in the mollusk family.

The release also notes, “The octopus flaunts its legs in the face of others (mollusks), like the clam or oyster which has none. This night gives a voice to the 99 percent who aren’t as fortunate.”
