WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Work is expected to begin this fall on a new $35 million facility at the Port of Wilmington to export wood pellets.

Port officials tell The StarNews (http://bit.ly/1sPRMbC ) that work on the project should take about a year to complete.

The facility is being built by Enviva, a Maryland company that makes and ships wood pellets.

Their investment includes building two storage domes as well as a rail car unloading station, a conveyor system and equipment to load the pellets onto ships.

About 60 percent of the more than 1 million tons of pellets expected to be shipped each year are expected to arrive at the port by train.
