Woman hit by SUV, dies; driver suspected of DUI

WASHINGTON — A woman at a bus stop was struck and killed by a driver who was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk in White Oak Wednesday.

Montgomery County police say 49-year-old Vanessa Dixon of Ingraham Street in D.C. was hit by an SUV driven by David Rodriguez, 22, of Silver Spring, at about 11:15 a.m. at Cresthaven Drive and New Hampshire Avenue.

Police say witnesses reported Rodriguez had been driving erratically on Cresthaven Drive, and that he crossed over to the left side of the road.

Dixon died later at a hospital. Rodriguez, who went on to hit two cars after hitting Dixon, was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The police say charges are pending.
