BALTIMORE (AP) — A federal judge is fining a dentist $35,000 for illegally distributing the prescription painkiller oxycodone from his Hagerstown office.

The U.S. attorney’s office said Tuesday that Vaqar Choudry of Germantown was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore. The sentence also included the 95 days he was confined after his arrest, and three years of supervised release.

Choudry pleaded guilty to the charge in June. In return, prosecutors agreed to dismiss a second drug count and a charge that Choudry tried to induce an underage girl to engage in sexual activity.

He still faces state charges in Washington County of sexually abusing an underage girl. His trial on those charges is set for Sept. 29.

Choudry’s Maryland dental license was suspended last year.
