Psychiatric exam ordered for teen slaying suspect

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A 16-year-old boy charged in adult court in the assault of a young girl and the killing of her 8-year-old brother has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1rLQBID ) reports a Richmond circuit judge ordered the evaluation Thursday at the request of the defendant’s attorney. Prosecutors didn’t object.

The youth is charged with second-degree murder in the May 1 beating death of the 8-year-old and malicious wounding and strangulation in the assault on the 12-year-old girl.

The case was moved to circuit court from Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
