400-pound Buddha statue stolen from Md. yard

HALFWAY, Md. (AP) — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a 400-pound statue of Buddha that was stolen from a resident’s back yard.

Deputies say the statue disappeared from Jim Elliott’s backyard near Halfway between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Elliott tells the Herald-Mail of Hagerstown (http://bit.ly/1pH3Szv) that the statue is solid granite and was a gift from a friend with whom he served in the military in South Korea in 1979.

He says the thieves’ footprints were in the mud in front of his truck and house. He has been searching eBay and craigslist to see if anyone is selling the statue online.

Deputies say the theft is under investigation.
