Kristen Gillman leads Junior PGA

BRYAN, Texas (AP) — Kristen Gillman shot a 5-under 66 on Tuesday at Miramont to top the girls’ field in the Junior PGA Championship, and S.M. Lee, Luis Gagne, Triston Fisher and Parker Reddig shared the boys’ lead at 68.

Gillman, the Austin, Texas, who has committed to play at Alabama, had a two-stroke lead over Hannah O’Sullivan of Paradise Valley, Arizona.

“I hit the ball really well all day and when I hit it close, I made the putts I needed to make,” Gillman said. “You have to hit the fairway on this golf course, and if you do, you can score. I was able to do that today.”

Sierra Brooks of Sorrento, Florida, was third at 69. Defending champion Amy Lee of Brea, California, was tied for 29th after a 75.

Lee is from Buford, Georgia; Gagne from Orlando, Florida; Fisher from Southlake, Texas; and Reddig from Minneapolis. Defending champion Tyler McDaniel of Manchester, Kentucky, had a 70.

The boys’ winner will get a spot next year in the PGA Tour’s Texas Open and the girls’ champion will qualify for the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic in California.
