OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — A drawbridge that got stuck in the upright position blocking Route 50 into Ocean City has been reopened to cars.

Maryland State Highway Administration officials say the Harry W. Kelley Memorial Bridge reopened to traffic Saturday evening by about 8 p.m.

The bridge on Route 50 became stuck in the open position Saturday as a result of a mechanical issue, frustrating travelers and causing backups on Maryland Route 90.

A state report from 2012 says the four-lane drawbridge was built in 1942 and named after a former mayor of Ocean City. The reports says that in 2011 the bridge carried an average of 48,600 vehicles on Saturdays in the summer.
