Mets put Matsuzaka on 15-day DL with elbow injury

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The New York Mets have placed relief pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 25, with right elbow inflammation on Saturday. The team selected pitcher Buddy Carlyle’s contract from Triple-A Las Vegas. Carlyle is available for Saturday night’s game in Milwaukee against the Brewers.

Carlyle is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in five games with the Mets this season.

Matsuzaka returned to New York on Friday for an MRI after experiencing soreness in the elbow. He is 1-0 with one save and a 3.25 ERA in 19 games in relief this season and 2-3 with a 4.24 ERA in nine starts this year. The Mets moved Matsuzaka back to the bullpen when starter Jonathon Niese returned from the DL on July 21.
