Godzilla returns: Sequel announced at Comic-Con

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Godzilla is coming back.

A sequel to the massive-monster film, featuring classic creatures from the franchise, is in the works. Legendary Pictures chief Thomas Tull made the announcement Saturday at Comic-Con before showing teaser footage that revealed the winged Mothra and Rodan and the three-headed Ghidorah will face off with the radioactive lizard in the sequel.

Military and war images and depictions of mushroom clouds fill the preview, which concluded with the words: “Let them fight.”

The film’s director, Gareth Edwards, appeared via video from San Francisco, where he said he was called on to rebuild the bridge Godzilla destroyed in the hit movie earlier this year.

The Legendary Pictures panel closed with a peek at King Kong’s planned cinematic return in “Skull Island.” A brief clip showed stormy seas and an isolated natural landscape and closed with the giant gorilla’s roar.
