Whitecaps fined by MLS; Real Salt Lake warned

NEW YORK (AP) — Vancouver Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson and his team have been fined by Major League Soccer because of the confrontation with Real Salt Lake last weekend.

Real Salt Lake was warned because it was their first offense. The Whitecaps had been warned for an earlier infraction.

Vancouver went up 1-0 on Saturday when Darren Mattocks made a 73rd-minute penalty following a foul by Nat Borchers. After the goal, the teams argued and players began shoving and shouting. The assistant referees and even a security guard helped separate the teams.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw after Joao Plata scored for Real Salt Lake in the 81st minute.
