Snobby sells for two Montgomery Co. communities

WASHINGTON – Two Maryland communities are considered among the snobbiest places in the U.S.

But for the real estate bloggers at Movoto.com, snobby can be a good thing. It can mean a higher number of art galleries, high median income level, higher percentages of residents with a college degree, more private schools per capita and higher median home prices.

That could be a good thing for a particular home shoppers, according to the blog.

“It’s okay to have refined tastes in life. Knowing a Cabernet from a Merlot is nothing to be ashamed of,” according to the blog. “Here at the Movoto Real Estate Blog, we’re a bit snobby ourselves, especially when it comes to houses.”

Bethesda, Maryland, ranked No. 2 for its high number of college graduates and for having the third highest household income of the communities analyzed. The town also had the highest median home prices out of the 309 communities the site compared.

Rockville tied for eighth place with Encinitas, California, in part for having the fifth highest number of private schools per capita and for the various galleries and museums nearby.

In comparison, Encinitas boasts a spa and has the sixth highest number of performing arts activities. The median home price was the 11th most expensive on the list.
