Local races cancel due to frigid conditions

WASHINGTON — Some local races have announced cancellations for this weekend because of the dangerously cold forecast. Virginia: Sunday’s George Washington Birthday Classic 10k and 2k Walk is cancelled. Pacers running Tweeted:

Sunday’s Valentine’s Day Share the Love 14K in Fairfax Station has been rescheduled for the following Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015. George Washington’s Birthday Marathon is also postponed until  the following Saturday on Feb. 21, 2015. Maryland: In Howard County,  the organizers of the Valentines’ Day Fun Run cancelled the event for Saturday morning. The weather for the Presidents Weekend will be frigid throughout the weekend. A High Wind Warning has been issued for the entire WTOP listening area from 6 p.m. Saturday until 2 p.m. Sunday for gusts up to 60 mph that could cause tree and power line damage. Ten years ago, D.C. bore the brunt of what came to be called Snowmageddon — one of the most severe winter storms in capital weather history. Between 1 and 3 feet of snow fell from Feb. 5 to Feb. 6, 2010: Flights at Reagan ground to a halt under 17.8 inches of snow — tame compared with Dulles, which saw over 32 inches.
