Indians call up Ramirez, with Cabrera out

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Cleveland Indians have recalled infielder Jose Ramirez from Triple-A Columbus, with starting shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera still hampered by lower back spasms.

The move was made before Wednesday’s game at Minnesota, and Ramirez was in the lineup batting second against the Twins. Cabrera sat out for the second straight game after suffering the injury while fielding a grounder in the second inning of Monday’s game.

Ramirez was batting .302 with 22 extra-base hits, 19 steals and 29 RBIs in 60 games for Columbus. He appeared in 11 games for the Indians in May.

To make room on the roster, left-handed T.J. House was sent back to Columbus. House started Monday’s game, so another starting pitcher will need to be recalled to join the rotation for the weekend.
