Morbidly obese dog embarks on weight loss challenge

WASHINGTON – Move over, “Biggest Loser.” There’s a new competitor in town and he walks on four paws.

Fluffy Pork Chop is a 6- to 8-year-old cocker spaniel/corgi that was rescued from a house in Newington, Va. when the owner was evicted. He was 42 pounds and considered morbidly obese when Oldies But Goodies Cocker Rescue center picked him up.

Because of his weight, the pooch was suffering from high blood pressure, a sore tooth and cherry eyes that require surgery, according to the rescue center’s website.

Now, Fluffy Pork Chop is on a weight-loss kick that has inspired his caretakers to blog about his progress. This includes weekly weigh-ins, photo updates and videos of his workouts.

As of April 4, the rescue dog had lost more than 8 pounds. The group hopes he will lose 20 pounds total before sending him off to a new home.

Check out his progress here.
