1 driver dies in Nebraska crash of 3 big rigs

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — One driver has been killed in a crash involving three semitrailers on Interstate 80 in southeast Nebraska.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the accident occurred just before 5 p.m. Thursday west of the Seward exit. The patrol says two eastbound big rigs had stopped because of construction, but a third big rig coming up from behind didn’t stop in time and rammed the rear of one of the trucks, which ran into the rear of the other truck.

The patrol identified the dead driver as 28-year-old Marcus Lathon, of Chesapeake, Virginia. A passenger in his truck, 34-year-old Kwasi Obeng-Benne, of El Paso, Texas, was flown to a Lincoln hospital. One of the other truck drivers was taken to Memorial Hospital in Seward with minor injuries. The remaining driver wasn’t hurt.
