SC Upstate handles North Florida, 80-63

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Ty Greene scored 25 points and South Carolina Upstate handled North Florida 80-63 on Thursday.

Greene was 9 of 18 from the floor with seven rebounds. ShunQuez Stephens had 14 points with 10 boards and Fred Miller added 10 points as the Spartans (19-7, 6-3 Atlantic Sun) shot 51 percent, was 7 of 12 from beyond the arc and outrebounded North Florida 41-28.

SC Upstate trailed much of the first half, but Stephens’ jumper with 23 seconds left sent the teams to the lockers tied at 36.

Upstate held a four-point lead with 9:45 left but went on a 17-2 run — including a 3-pointer by Miller — to take control of the game.

Chris Davenport led North Florida (15-11, 7-2) with 17 points while Beau Beach added 11 points.

WASHINGTON -- Past met present for Georgetown University when the school introduced Hoyas great Patrick Ewing as its head men's basketball coach, with an eye toward the future.  It happened on Wednesday in front of a room packed with media, boosters, fans, students, alumni and a pep band that did not know "Vehicle" by the Ides of March. But Ewing's name alone was music enough to everyone's ears at the John Thompson Jr. Athletic Center in D.C. Ewing even replicated his famous scene from when he committed to play at the Big East school in 1981, holding a Georgetown pennant above his head.
