Nationals star Bryce Harper married over weekend (Photos)

WASHINGTON — Shortly after finding his name in the news after talks of his eventual free agency resurfaced around the Winter Meetings, Bryce Harper made headlines for happier reasons this weekend.

The Nationals outfielder married his longtime girlfriend, Kayla Varner, in a Mormon ceremony in San Diego.

Harper’s teammates Jayson Werth and Trea Turner were both in attendance, as was Nats GM Mike Rizzo, reportedly. Former teammate Ian Desmond was also one of Harper’s groomsmen, along with Werth.

The timing of the ceremony helps further explain Harper’s absence from the team’s offseason fan event held the weekend prior, which Varner referenced in a since-deleted tweet.

The Washington Nationals showed off their trophy from winning the 2019 World Series in front of their local fans in South Florida during a parade on Thursday, February 20. Spring Training kicked off recently, and the first preseason game is Saturday, February 22, against the Houston Astros, the team they defeated in the World Series. Before the parade started, Michael A. Taylor and Sean Doolittle mingled with fans, some of whom were wearing hats supporting the local Miami Marlins. However, the West Palm Beach fans showed their support, as players like Kurt Suzuki, Trea Turner and Howie Kendrick rode in cars and buses through the main streets of Clemantis.
