I-95 bridge to be dedicated to slain Va. trooper

CARSON, Va. (AP) — An Interstate 95 overpass in Prince George County will be dedicated in memory of a slain Virginia state trooper.

A ceremony for the Trooper Leo Whitt Memorial Bridge will be held Friday at the I-95 northbound rest area in Carson. The bridge four miles to the south carries state Route 667 over the interstate.

The 48-year-old Whitt was fatally shot in April 1985 during a traffic stop along I-95 in Sussex County south of Carson. He was stationed in Prince George County and was a 21-year veteran of the department.
