2-year-old hit by van near Beltway, dies

NEW CARROLLTON, Md. (AP) – Police in New Carrollton say a 2-year-old child has been struck by a van and killed after running into the street.

Police say the boy was struck on 85th Avenue near the Capital Beltway on Saturday afternoon. Police say the driver remained on the scene.

Investigators say the toddler had been playing in the front yard of a home before he ran into the street. Police say it was a tragic accident.

A collision analysis team in the New Carrollton Police Department is investigating to determine whether any charges will be filed.
