World swimming champ Dyatchin banned for doping

MOSCOW (AP) — Two-time world swimming champion Vladimir Dyatchin has been banned for two years for doping.

Dyatchin tested positive for an unspecified banned substance in June, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency said. He denied doping, saying the substance must have entered his body accidentally.

The agency said Dyatchin had received a two-year ban from the Russian swimming federation, backdated to July 4 last year.

The 32-year-old Dyatchin, who won the 10-kilometer open water title at the 2003 and 2007 world championships, was quoted by Russian media as saying he would now retire and work as a competition organizer.
