ANNANDALE, Va. (AP) — A 3-carat diamond ring donated anonymously to a northern Virginia Goodwill thrift store has attracted bids exceeding $9,000.

Employees at Goodwill’s Annandale store tell WRC-TV (http://bit.ly/W6mth6 ) that the ring was dropped off in a plastic bag with some other jewelry.

Goodwill had the ring appraised and posted it for auction on its website, shopgoodwill.com. The high bid as of early Tuesday morning was more than $9,000. Bidding on the ring closes later Tuesday morning.

While it is not unusual for Goodwill to receive donated jewelry, workers there say a diamond ring of this size definitely stands out.

Goodwill says the money will be used to support job training programs.
