WASHINGTON — A Maryland man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the ramp from eastbound Interstate 70 to southbound Interstate 270 near Frederick Wednesday morning.

The Frederick County crash occurred at 5:35 a.m., involving a tractor-trailer, a Ford F-150 and a Toyota Corolla, Maryland State Police said.

Ross Jonathan Michaels, 40, of Frederick, Maryland, was driving the Corolla and died at the scene. He was rear-ended by the tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer had lost control after braking when he reached heavy traffic and jackknifed into the next lane, crashing into Michaels’ car, which hit the truck traveling in front of him, police said.

The tractor-trailer driver was taken to a hospital and released with minor injuries.

Police say the investigation is ongoing. They added on Friday morning that the ramp, along with one lane on I-70, will be closed between 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday as they continue to investigate.
